The vertical ...
The vertical cylinder is called a SLAVE CYLINDER. It is hooked directly into the loader bucket circuit, so that as the loader arm is raised the bucket stays level to keep from spilling the bucket load on the operator. In modern backhoes, its done by a mechanical linkage tied to the loader arm that physically pushes on the control valve to keep the bucket from dumping back. The system only employeed one cylinder, but the mechanical linkage costs less, and does not impair visibility.
